Top 10 Attractions Included in a Hue DMZ Tour

1 Day

Hue DMZ Tour is one of the most powerful historical experiences in Central Vietnam. It takes you through the former Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), where intense battles once divided North and South Vietnam along the 17th parallel.

This full-day journey is not just about sightseeing—it is about understanding Vietnam’s wartime history through real locations that played key roles during the conflict.

Below are the top 10 attractions included in a typical Hue DMZ Tour itinerary.

1. Vinh Moc Tunnels

The Vinh Moc Tunnels are one of the most impressive underground systems in Vietnam.

Unlike the Cu Chi Tunnels, Vinh Moc was built for civilians. Entire families lived underground to survive intense bombing.

Highlights:

  • Underground living quarters
  • Kitchen and meeting rooms
  • Underground hospital
  • Coastal tunnel exits

2. Hien Luong Bridge

The Hien Luong Bridge spans the Ben Hai River and once marked the border between North and South Vietnam.

For years, the bridge symbolized the division of the country.

Today, it stands as a powerful symbol of peace and reunification.

3. Ben Hai River

Located at the 17th parallel, the Ben Hai River served as the temporary dividing line between North and South Vietnam.

Visitors can see historical markers and learn about its strategic importance during the war.

4. Khe Sanh Combat Base

The Khe Sanh Combat Base was a major US Marine base during the Vietnam War.

It is best known for the 1968 siege, one of the longest and most intense battles of the war.

Today, it features:

  • War museum
  • Aircraft displays
  • Reconstructed bunkers

5. Dakrong Bridge

The Dakrong Bridge is a scenic suspension bridge that was part of the Ho Chi Minh Trail network.

It played an important role in transporting troops and supplies during the war.

6. Quang Tri Citadel

The Quang Tri Citadel is a heavily damaged historical site that witnessed one of the fiercest battles in 1972.

Today, it serves as a memorial for those who lost their lives during the conflict.

7. Ho Chi Minh Trail Sections

Parts of the Ho Chi Minh Trail are included in many DMZ tours.

This vast network of roads was essential for moving troops and supplies between North and South Vietnam.

8. Rockpile Hill (Optional Stop)

The Rockpile Hill is a dramatic limestone formation used as a US military observation point.

It offers insight into the strategic geography of the region.

9. Dong Ha Town

Dong Ha is the capital of Quang Tri province and often serves as a lunch stop during DMZ tours.

It provides a glimpse into modern life in Central Vietnam.

10. Doc Mieu Base (Optional)

The Doc Mieu Base was once part of the McNamara Line defense system.

Today, it is a quiet historical site with remnants of military installations.

A must do when visiting Vietnam! Our driver Tom was fantastic, arrived early for our pick up, communicated well and provided refreshments for the journey. Both tour locations were organised in advance so really straightforward and the tour guides were excellent - really informative in a very interesting way.

We had a wonderful experience on the DMZ half-day tour by private car. The private transfer was very comfortable, clean, and well-organized, which made the journey smooth and relaxing.

Our driver was punctual, friendly, and drove very safely. He was always patient and happy to answer our questions along the way. Having a private car allowed us to travel at our own pace and enjoy the sites without feeling rushed.

The DMZ visit was very informative and meaningful. Everything was well arranged, and we felt well taken care of throughout the tour. This half-day tour is perfect for travelers who want a comfortable, flexible, and high-quality experience.

Highly recommended for anyone visiting the DMZ!

Visiting sites like the Hien Luong Bridge, Ben Hai River, and Vinh Moc Tunnels was truly unforgettable. It was both emotional and educational to see these places in person and to imagine what life was like during those difficult times. The guide made everything come alive with personal stories and local insights.
The transportation was comfortable, and everything was well organized. I also appreciated that the schedule was perfectly balanced — we saw a lot without feeling rushed.
